Appointees to the ACBL Goodwill Committee

50 Years of ACBL Aileen Osofsky Goodwill Committee

Year 2005 was particularly special as it represented the 50th Anniversary of the ACBL Goodwill Committee. The committee was organized in 1955 with John E. Simon as chair and Louise Durham as co-chair. Next year will mark the Goodwill Committee’s 70th Anniversary.

Aileen Osofsky became chair in 1985 and expanded the committee's endeavors, taking on promotions of Active Ethics, awareness of those with disabilities such as hearing loss, support for Junior Programs and naming of a Goodwill Member of the Year.

Each member of the ACBL Board of Directors is entitled to appoint two lifetime members from his or her district annually. Goodwill Day is celebrated the Monday of each NABC. Districts and units are encouraged to establish and recognize their own Goodwill Committees.

ACBL Aileen Osofsky Goodwill Committee

District 16 2025 Lifetime Recipients

It is with great pleasure that we announce Sandra Sarnow, Huixquilucan, Mexico and Bob Holliday, Plano, as members of the national ACBL Aileen Ososfsky Goodwill Committee. This is an honorary lifetime membership bestowed upon individuals who exhibit a spirit of courtesy, kindness and tact at the bridge table.

Sandra Sarnow, Huixquilucan, MX

Sandra Sarnow Unit 173 began playing bridge in 1989 and earned her ACBL Teacher Certification in 1998. Soon after, she started teaching bridge to private groups using Audrey Grant's teaching materials and Diamond books. In 2002, she founded a small club where her students could play weekly duplicate bridge. Sandra later became a certified ACBL director and expanded to hosting an open game once a week. By 2017, she was running two open games each week.

When the COVID‑19 pandemic hit, all games in Mexico City were suspended. However, Sandra continued to organize two weekly games, making every effort to connect players and find partners. On a good week, they manage to get 4-6 tables. She is the only person actively promoting duplicate bridge in Mexico City, and it’s thanks to her dedication that players still have the opportunity to enjoy the game. Sandra’s tireless commitment truly deserves recognition.

Bob Holliday, Plano, Texas

Bob Holliday, Plano Unit 176, started playing party bridge in college and duplicate in the late 70s. After a 40‑year break for a career as an actuary and to raise a family he returned to bridge in 2016. Bob plays often and very well, utilizing his actuarial experience to master bridge odds, and has become an outstanding card player. He says he, “Loves learning about the game and appreciates all the help past and present partners have provided.” A highlight of Bob’s bridge career was winning his flight in the 2022 District GNT Finals, and playing in the NABC that year in Providence.
